1. DEAR ABE:   Can the Muslim marriage, nikkah  and rukhsatee, be done in the month of Ramzan (Ramadan)?  So, can a husband and wife make a relationship if their marriage is held in the month of Ramzan?  –ANONYMOUS IN CANADA

DEAR ANONYMOUS: There are no restrictions in the Quran on getting married and completing the relationship in the month of Ramadan.[1]

Relevant Quran Verses:  [1] 24:32 , 5:5 , 2:221 , Marriage Article on Islam Unraveled.org.

2. DEAR ABE: Since the Quran tells us there is a dress code at all times in verse 33:59, then is there a special dress code for the month of Ramadan, since it is a special religious time of the year? – NADIA, PENNSYLVANIA

DEAR NADIA: The dress code in verse 33:59 reads; 'O prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the wives of the believers that they shall lengthen their garments. Thus, they will be recognized (as righteous women) and avoid being insulted. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful' [1]. There are no specifications in this Quran verse or any Quran verse on type, style, exact length, or color of dress at any time of the year [2].  The verse is explaining that the end goal when a believing woman gets dressed, is to dress in a manner to be recognized as a righteous woman.  Thus, there is no special dress code for the month of Ramadan.

Relevant Quran Verses: [1] 24:30-31 , 33:59 , 7:31 ; [2] 24:31 , Dress Code Article on Islam Unraveled.org.

3. DEAR ABE: What method of moon sighting is acceptable for determining the beginning of the month of Ramadan? – ROD , LOS ANGELES

DEAR ROD: We are not required to physically be able to see the moon to know it is the beginning of a lunar month. God gave us the scientific knowledge to determine exactly when each lunar month begins and ends. Therefore, we can compute when Ramadan begins in any given year in the future [1]. The Quran is fully detailed and it confirms our ability to use the moon as a calculation device [2].

Relevant Quran Verse: [1] 2:189 , 2:183-187 , Ramadan Article on Masjid Tucson.org ; [2] 10:5.
